Hello All,

Sorry I haven't been arround for a while...

Over the weekend I installed the DynoMax catback exhaust on my 91 and wanted to give some feedback. Since I have not seen many DynoMax related posts.

Installation took about 20 minutes from start to finish. It did not take much to remove the stock system since everything past the main silencer fell off when JonM was driving behind me. (Jon, thanks again for the call that I was dragging the rear silencer and tailpipe down the road) Also I started spraying down the remaining bolts and hangers with WD40 the week before the kit arrived. The kit came in two pieces, the silencer and the rear pipe (plus clamps but no decals, tacky for the $200.00) The logic is you cut and reuse the pipe from the cat to the front of the silencer. I took one look at mine and decided that for the extra $20.00 I'd get the front pipe and new gasket. The "hardest" part of the install was undoing the rear shock from the lower mount to feed the tailpipe over the axle to the rear of the silencer.

Now for the results:

Performance gain: Yes, noticable improvement. But this is probably due to the fact that the existing silencer was so plugged with rust. It weighed at least twice as much as the new unit and you could hear crud flopping arround.

Tone: Nice mellow rumble and not loud when you stomp on it or at highway speeds.

Worth it: Sure, sounds better and costs less than a stock replacement and is better quality than something from Midas.

Best regards.

Ok, I've changed my mind a bit.

Less than 2 yrs old and the muffler rusted out. Digging up the paperwork, should have a lifetime warranty, let's see what they have to say on Monday.

Will keep you posted.

When i had my exhuast done in my mustang at midas they sold me a catback system because i failed inspection. Well they told me it had a lifetime warrenty when i bought it. Come to find out the only thing that was covered under the warrenty was the damn muffler that cost $15 bucks. The pipes is what was rusting and getting holes in it not the lifetime MUFFLER. Damn a$$holes werent clear when they told me it was guarenteed.

Then there was another time i went to the same muffler shop with a differnt car that had pipes all rusted out but didnt have any holes in it but the muffler basically exploded due to a backfire. They gave me a new muffler for free but the guy called me into the garage to show me how rusted the pipes were.

The guy grabbed a pair of pliers and started to crush my rusted pipes to show me exactly how weak the pipe was. Right after he did that i was in a little shock but mostly pissed off. I walked into the office and spoke with the manager and told him that stupid arse in the garage ruined my pipe and i should get a free replacement due to the fact that his employee purposely ruined it on me to make more profit.

It worked. I got new pipes and a new muffler for free.

Gimp, was yours the Dyno Max?

Called warranty support, they said just get the numbers off the can and they should cover it.

Will let you know on Mon-Tues when I get more info. Gotta find my 1999 receipts.

Gimp you have a good point. That darn salt air and sand destroys everything. (but I would not give up living on the water) But after today's tranny noise incident (see "under the hood") I am out for blood and will hold people accountable for their labor and warranty claims.
