Hi everyone, new to the forum.I just purchased a '94 Explorer and was told not to use the emergency brake because the vehicle will make a "clunking" sound afterward.Well, I used the E brake and after I drove away I heard a clunking sound ( as soon as I applied the brakes, noise went away ).Does this sound like the E brake hanging up? In case this helps,I tried driving backward and noise now seems to be gone.I know I probably sound a bit paranoid, but I just got this vehicle and I really do not know to much about it.Thanks for taking the time to read this ( I know it is a bit long ). Steve

E brakes

Sounds like the parking brakes are sticking, not releasing when you release the pedal.
I had that problem, it was the cable, there is one cable going from the pedal on the left side below the doors, there it joins 2 cables each going to one rear wheel.
you should take the cable and try to free them up or just get new ones.
its simple, you take the rear tire off, and the drum, then you should see the parking brake cable going in to the drum where it attaches to a lever.

Spray all your cables with PB Blaster. Also, make sure your rear self adjusters are hanging up or are frozen.

Would the cable potentially be the problem when your parking brake sticks only after a rainy day? This is what has been happening with my car. If I apply the parking brake after driving in the rain, the brakes really stick next time I move the car after it's been sitting for a while.
