I was just curious if anyone has changed out their belt driven fan from their 91-94 in favor of an electric one? Did it aid in a little bit of horsepower and allow your engine to run better..?

Oh and are the Explorer fans pushers or pullers? and which is better, I read it once in a magazine, but I have forgotten.
Thanks
Mat

I tried it last summer when the weather wasn't too hot. I didn't even put the A/C on and the truck was close to overheating. I removed it quickly because I don't think it was strong enough for the truck.

I used the black magic fan - maybe a duel fan may work better; however, the black magic fan was rated for engines up to 225 hp. I couldn't have more than 185hp.

Rick tried it also and had the same results, but he does live in Arizona - hot hot hot. I tried it in 85 degree weather in New York and was not impressed.

Here is the original thread where I gave my report about the Black Magic electric fan.

After this experience I don't reccomend the fan at all.

Do not put an electric fan on because your explorer will just overheat like mine did and you will regret it.

Has anyone tried a dual fan setup? One pushing and one pulling? Would that move more air? How about a Flexalite fan? I hear that they can move alot of air. I am considering doing an electric fan on my '93, but only if it will keep up with the hot weather. Moab gets MIGHTY warm in the summer. Dead Link Removed

After what rick said in that other thread I am going to stay with my good ol' stock fan. Thanks for saving me A LOT of trouble Rick.

HAS ANYONE TRIED A FLEXLITE REVERSE DRIVE FAN on a late model explorer? I am kind of interested in freeing up some hp.

i have an electric fan on my 98 that pushes at least 350hp AND i live in florida and i have never had a problem with it with or without the air condioning on....you need a good fan a thermostat control and a relay to turn in on and thats it.....i dont have a digital camera but i did take pics of it so as soon as i get them developed and figure out how to put them on here you can see how i did it....but to answer your question ...yes it can be done...good luck

perma cool i think...

I have been thinking of going with an electric fan also....

does anyone know the cfm that the stock V-8 is??

I was just looking at SPAL fams which i have heard good things about..... but If I do go with a fan it will probably be a lincoln Mark VIII fan.

thats what I am running in my mustang. This is the most widely used fan for mustang guys. The Mark VIII fans have awesome cfm ratings and can cool a 700hp street mustang with no problems.

I do have to take a few measurements on my X though to make sure it will clear my blower... its a little think.

Just wanted to mention this because I have never heard anyone on this site mention the Mark VIII fan.

I have a Perma Cool fan on mine. It is the 16in version rated at 2950 CFM. It has worked well thus far, but the really hot weather has not come yet. I had another fan that was rated at maybe 1600 CFM at most. It was a POS! I got mine from Summit Raceing.
