Has anyone out there ever had a promblem with there electric start. my x is having some weird promblems. My rpms has been rev real high when I have been driving. ford dealer check the whole truck, they reset the computer, no codes were found and even replaced the mas but that did not do anything at all. I'm at a lost because the dealer has tryed real hard but they can't find what's wrong. I really don't know what to do. I never use my electric start it works, but the mech made a good point that he said it was hooked up to the ignition. some I'm thinking that it may be doing something with the truck. The electric start is 4 yrs old. I'm going to have the person who put it in 4yrs ago and have it removed and see if I still have promblems from there.

I've read your post like twice and still can't understand it -- So your driving and your RPMs will just shoot up real high or is this when you start it, the RPMs go up high and come back down? If the transmission is acting like it's in neutral while your driving and your RPMs go up - you can have a transmission problem. Some of the solenoids can go bad and check valves and you'll be driving and it'll try and shift and it'll go into neutral then get into the next gear. Now if your having a problem with the RPMs going up high when you start it and it won't back down, then check out your IAC. If your car starts and just idles high -- your problem isn't with the ignition.

EDIT: I also have a remote start - I have not had a problem at all.

So the rpms do race high when I'm driving and all the light's on the dash come on, Now when I'm driving like at 40 mph your normal rpm would be like 2500 or so well that's when the gauge goes up to like 5000, then falls back down. I really don't feel like it is the transmisson why would ford not tell me this? Does a chilton book worth buying like at a pep boys, or are they just a waste of money.

I think I can read between the lines..

When you say electric start you mean "Remote Starter" correct? When you say the vehicles RPMs shoot up does that mean just the gauge or can you feel the engine surge when the guage goes up and down.. The reason I ask is because remote starters do get spliced into the Tach wire. They do this as a trigger to know when the engine has started so the starter motor can be disengaged (otherwise the starter would crank all day). Anyway if this is the case then your problem is probably just a poor connection between the remote starter and the tach wire.... Crimp connections can loosen up over time (due to vibration) and that is why you should solder all wires.

Yes the engine does surge ahead while driving. I just talked to people who install this remotes and they say they have never heard of a promblem. They told me to shut off the elctric start but can't find where to. what a mess.
I have been looking at some of the links and am wondering if it may be speed sensor, which I told ford. they told me that there would be a code for this.

I'm being to think if a dealer computer does not tell them whats wrong with my truck they just shrug their shoulderss and say no idea. this blows!

If the engine is surging then it is not your remote starter... The remote starter just starts the truck; once you put the key in and drive the system is not doing anything to affect engine performance. If anything it would only affect the gauge, not the engine itself.

Hope everything works out - I know it can be very fustrating!
