Navajo Front Turn Signal Relocation

This is an odd question...but to those of you that have or know of the way that the Navajo has those stupid turn signals underneath the bumper might relate to what I am doing...I took off that front piece that was always gettin driven into the ground/snow and now I have two loose turn signal bulbs that I can just tie off inside the engine compartment no prob...but...I wonder if I can wire them into the running lights in front some how? OR somehow incorporate them into a new turn signal apparatus...I dont know...I can just leave then loose but then there is the problem of not having front turn signals (i could get a ticket or not pass inspection...I wonder if any Navajo owners have stumbled upon this problem themselves? I am pretty much content without having the turn signals, but is their another option?

Mabye you could get some rectangular turn signal housings and mount them inside the bars of the grille.

or just drill a hole in the back of your head light housing and shove em in there? thatd be my ghetto fab method...

yeh, i was thinkin of doin that...i dont think the bulb would fit in that housing though...i was thinkin of mabye splicing the wire into the running light bulb, but that bulb isnt double filamented like the turn signal/running light...i might look into some turn signal housing in the grill...

Electrical Problems

Ever since I thought it was a great idea to scrap the needlessly low turn signals on my navajo and put them higher so i could get rid of that stupid lower bumper part i havent had front turn signals...i just strapped in the bulbs in the engine compartment t ill i could get arond to figurin out what i would do. well i got a couple running lights from a couple old ford vans and they fit perfect below the grill...well i cut the wires (ground, turn, runing light) from the bulbs and wired them (cept the running light line) to the new 1 filament bulb. well, it didnt work because i think the resistence is wrong so i bought a bunch of resisters from radio shack andi am gonna try and see if any of them give the correct resistence in ohms like the original bulb so the little one flashes......well now since i have had these cut wires my dashgauge light went out and i dont have brake lights...i think this might be unrelated, but something is weird with the headlight switch its makin stuff flicker.......but what about the resisters? who would have a multimeter that could tell me the resistence so i dont have to guess and check with these resisters....would a car radio place? of course the radio shack people didnt know...thanks
did anyone see Ricks truck in Off-Road magazine in the march issue i think? I gotta ge tahold of that old 2000 one where he was featured....

Sounds to me like you have a blown fuse . The fuse operates the dash, tail & running lights. #10???
A sing. filiment bulb is fine if its 27 watt. I think most of them are. If the draw was to little it will flash real fast like when you have a turn signal bulb out. If it isnt flashing at all then its a fuse or the flasher unit. You shouldnt need a resister unless your going from two turn signal lights to one light. Replaceing the flasher unit will probably be easier than putting in some resisters and do the same thing.

The bulb i am tryin to get to flash is a 194...im assuming it is 27 watts but i dont really know, arent al lthe bulbs 12v and 27 watts?.....what i am getting is a steady lightup...which leads me and my buddies to believe iits getting too much juice...its not the turn signal fuse or the flasher unit cuase the old bulb in the housing still works...if i connect the old bulb to the turn/ground and the new bulb to that then both flash (almost like the old bulb is resisting) the old bulb is the normal 1357 or whatever turn bulb........so if I guess and check with all these darn resisters do i need a resister between the ground connections as well as the active connection? i think this should do it, i just dont know which kind of resister i need in there ( i have abunch i am tryin) would a multimeter tell me? who would know the answer to this question if a mechanic and radioshack dont?

Tyr hooking upo your old bulbs first ,a nd see if they evne work anymore....then you will know if that is the source of the problem, or the switch.

A 194 is a 5 to 8 watt marker light. I'm talking about an 1156 or 3156 bulb. Kind thats in your back-up lights. You can enlargen the hole and get a sockett from NAPA & it should work. Use an 1156 and you should have no problems.

i have checked the connection with the old bulb...i hookedit up and then the other bulb and they both flashed, but when i took away the original the other stopped flashing...the turn signal housing is too small to fit a bigger bulb like the original in...what is this that NAPA has? I might have to scrap this project in all honesty because i dont know how to do this wiring...the housing for the bulb is a side marker lens and bulb, the big bulb wont fit in it...

I got my hands on a multimeter and measured the ohms on the line with the orininal bulb in (when it was flashing) and it was .8 about.......then with the new bulb it was 3.6 or so...i thought this meant to put in 3.2 ohms of resistence...so i threw in 3 1ohm resistors and it still wouldnt make the bulb flash...i dont know what to do now, unless im just not using the meter correctly

No, you have it backwards...Ifg the new bulb has more resistance, you need to take AWAY resistance....You added 3 Ohms to the bulbs 3.6 for a total of 6.6. The circuit is meant for the .8, so you have it overloaded, which means it won't flash.....

I just found this thread or I would have replied sooner. I have done this mod on my navajo and it works great (looks great too). All i did was cut the plug off of the old turn signal set up and bought a new signal base and smaller dual filament bulb at autozone and put them where the park lights are. I had to cut the hole slightly larger and i also put silicon around them to seal the whole. One more thing the new base only had two wires and the stock plug has three. I just had to solder one of the wires to the side of the new base and it works fine. I hope this isn't too late.

wow! could you explain that again...im a little confused about what you did...i have it ghetto rigged into two new bulbs and lens, which looks pretty good but that might be an idea too cause the way i have it isnt gonna last...THANKS

i said screw it and just kept the old bulbs in the same circuit so the new ones flash...this is semi temporary till i figure out what the hell to do for the long term, basically i quicktied the old bulbs to hoses inthe engine compartment then ran lines from them to the new signals.......it looks fine and works for now anyways...i just dont know what else to do

turn signal

Dude I just shaved some of the original bracketry off and mounted them in the grill . I drilled some holes and used some of the existing holes and theey look great. I will post a link to a pic here in a little while

modules.php

here is the pic you just use the radiator mount steel

that didnt work
