Embarassing X horn

Can anyone tel me how to disable the horn sounding three times when the door is open. Everytime I drop off kids someplace there always seems to be someone walking rigt in front of me when this stupid feature decides to turn on

Sorry....I had the info in my head. Just forgot to type it

It is a 97 explorer. I do not mean the beep thing under the dash. I mean the horn blows 3 times. It will do this if you are sitting with the car running and open the door for too long or it will also do the same thing if you turn on the dome light while driving down the road. It will blow the horn 3 times. It is embarassing. People think I am honking at them to get out from in front of me

It sounds to me like some kind of funk with the alarm.
If you try to lock the doors with the key fob and a door is open it will honk twice.

Tell me. do the lights flash as well too?

Lights do not flash. It is like some ******** engineer thought I was too stupid to know that I turned on the dome light. Ummm....I turned it on so I could see to dig out money at the drive through. I think I know it is on.

I have searched all the way through the owners manual and can't find anything about it. I am ready to sell this POS. I would much rather drive my rusty old 91 X

It has to be a feauture of some aftermarket alarm. Which would be nice.. if you could turn it on and off. Imagine some dude opening the door at 3AM to steal your stereo. Then the horn starts going off after a few minutes.

I just went out and looked under the dash. I don't see anything under there that doesn't belong. There is also nothing under the hood. I may have to just call the Ford dealer. This thing drives me nuts

No extra remotes with the vehicle? I know when I bought mine it had some sort of after market immobilizer that seemed to conflict with the stock alarm, meaning if the immobilizer was triggered I had know idea how to get rid of it. I threw the remote away to avoid an accidental trigger, later cut all previously installed after market crap out.

How long have you had the X? Can you contact the person/place you bought it to see if they had/know of any after market equipment?

Just the two key FOBS. We have had it for about a year now and we bought it from my in-laws. They had it for about 4 years

Hmmm... with mine it was easy to find the after market stuff cause it was poorly routed under the dash. Maybe your RAP module (computer for the alarm) is crapping out? Usually it just quits, but obviously you have a special case here...trying unplugging the RAP, or otherwise disabling the alarm, and see if it still does it.

We don't use the factory alarm anyway so I may have to try unplugging it.

I should mention if you unplug the RAP, I think you also disable all keyless entry functions. Maybe see if you can pull a fuse for just the alarm. I'll check my manual, but yours is probably different than mine
