How do I go about cleaning my engine bay, I want that ***** spotless. (Im a perfectionist :D ) :D

Well you can go a number of ways. Either use some a engine cleaner kit like the ones made by Gumout, or use some Greased Lightning and do it by hand. Or power wash it.
 






Whatever you do, always cover the electrical stuff like the battery, alternator, the engine computer, etc...(guys, help me by adding more things to cover up). That way, your most important stuff won't get messed up.
 






I did mine the other day, i let it cool, covered the battery, alternator, coil packs, and then went to it after i put degreaser all over it. i just stayed from hard pressure near the computer, and near the things that I was trying to keep dry...and overall it worked well and came out lookin real sharp!
 






Pull the engine out. That way you can climb inside and give every thing a good scrub.

I'll prolly take it to the ford dealership and pay them to detail it... If they would do that...??? :D

I usually just leave it running, spray some super clean on it and blast it with the pressure washer. I don't bother to cover anything I just avoid spraying things that should be wet. A little bit of water isn't going to hurt anything.

A "little bit" of water in the air intake while the engine is running can cause the engine to hydrolock, and potentionally ruin it :(

Ford dealership = devil. They'd probably try to charge you $500 for the service.

It is best to wash it with the engine off and cool, that is what is directed on cans of degreaser to clean your engine...

lol hey it's new I dont want to **** anything up. Ya know? But they cleaned my grandpas engine bay for free... :cool:

Well I'll tell you what you keep following the directions on the can and I'll keep detailing show winners. I know I sound like an ass saying that but expirement with your product a little... find out what it can really do. I have a polish that I use alot that is actually a few different products combined. I found the right mix by playing around with it. Mixing a wax that came off really easy with one that left an amazing shine. Find the right mixture and Boom!!! Best of both worlds. It been alot of trial and error along the way. I've had a few cars that wouldn't start after I cleaned the engines when I was first detailing. You learn how much water is too much in certain places. Of course its nice when you can find out on other peoples cars. One of the main reasons they tell you to use the products on a cool engine is becasue cold water and real hot metals can be real bad. I don't have to worry about it though (diesel powered heater on the pressure washer)

Whoa, back that train up there sir....:confused:

I was telling him its not a good idea to wash the engine with it running or while its hot...I refered to nothing about the process of actually cleaning the engine itself...

Not quite..:( But what if you were blasting every thing in sight, and you noticed a hot neighbor bending over to pick up her leaves, and shot the spray into the intake?:D Why risk it?

True, but while at idle, i dont think the engine is exactly sucking enough air in from the intake to cause it to hydrolock, I think it would become more of an issue when you started moving.

If you want it to look really nice, after getting off the caked on oil, mud, antifreeze, power steering fluid,etc, grab a bottle of son of a gun or armor all, spray everyting, and wipe it down real well. Made my '91 look almost as good as she would have in '92.
