Engine Block Heater Leak

My 2013 Explorer Limited is leaking coolant from the engine block heater connection. I never use this heater and I am thinking of getting it removed and plugging the hole. Has anyone ever experienced this issue before and do you think it is OK to just plug the hole and replace the heater?

Do they use a frost plug style heater. If they do its just as much work to replace it with a new heater as it would be to put a frost plug in. It wouldn't cost any more either.
