I just got a chiltons repair guide for my explorer to help me solve a starting problem with my 94 ex. My question is this, it say's"step 1-perform eec-iv quick test...has test been performed if no, go to section 14 first and perform quick test. Now call me stupid but the book only goes up to chapter 10, the chapters are not broken up into sections and, in the no start test chart item a14 is check gnd continuity at edis module, then rerun quick test so that can't be it. I just know the answer is sitting in front of me but I am used to using the haynes and this has me going crazy.....Please HELP.... what is the eec-iv quick test?

Thanks
Glen

Quick Test is the Ford's official name for the EEC-IV self-tests, commonly called "pulling codes." Chilton's might be ok at describing the quick test, but I think this is better: www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html under tests.

Out of curiosity, what kind of no-start do you have? Starter doesn't do anything? Starter cranks the engine over, but the engine doesn't catch and run on it's own?

Thanks, I was hoping you would have the answer. The problem I am having is it will crank good and fast but will not catch and run. You may remember this from an earlier post where I thought the problem was with the FPR (since ruled out). It started as an intermittant prob. but has gotten worse. I am replacing the crankshaft position sensor tonight, if this doesn't help, the complete diagnosis begins in the morning. I obviously am not a mechanic but have managed so far(with a-lot of help from this site) I will update as the troubleshooting continues and any help will be gratefully recieved.

Thanks again
Glen
