i went wheelin in my explorer today and went through a water hole. the truck stalled and now wont start. the starter clicks once but wont turn over the engine. does anybody know what would cause the engine from starting?or does it just need to dry itself out??98 ford explorer.

Hydrolocked?? It's possible your motor sucked in water. Try turning the crank bolt and see if it moves freely.

Unless you went through deep water and sucked water into the engine and it stopped suddenly, I would bet it will dry out and try again. Also you could have knocked the crank sensor wiring loose.

If the water was deep, pull the spark plugs out, and turn it over, then the water will come out to plug holes, sounds like you sucked up water, hopefully you are lucky and done no damage to the engine. Try turning the crank with a socket first before pulling plugs.

i will try the things you guys suggested and see what happens. wish me luck

I went to start the explorer today and it wouldn't start but when I put it in neutral it started right up. Runs good now. Thanks for all the help guys. Much appreciated.

Check your air filter and engine oil. Also check the differential transfer case and transmission fluids for water contamination

I checked the oil and it was fine. I had to change the air filter became it got wet. I haven't checked the transmission fluid or the transfercase fluid. Ill do that today.
