1994 ford explorer xlt
just need the heads off any to fit a 94 ohv 4.0 vinx will 99 heads from exp work or are there block differences like are the bolts the same im not partial to bore shapes what is the best set of heads i could put on it aftermarket casting or later years should be better 4.-0 still and option in 99

I know the combustion chambers were smaller on newer heads which would increase the compression on earlier motors. Other than that i think they are a direct swap. Given the cost of fuel right now I would be afraid that I would have to run premium with the higher compression.
 






Weren't the smaller combustion chambers only on the SOHC engines? I thought that the OHV heads were the same?

No, the OHV also had two combustion chamber sizes.
 






Could have sworn this info was posted on this site previously. I remember reading it when i had to replace my heads?
Maybe try a search?
