engine misfire

third time i have had a misfire problem. the first two times the dealer replaced a plug wire and the problem was solved. should i just replace the wires myself with something better? what has been the best fix for the problem?

Is the misfire constant until you change the wire or intermittent? I'm getting some funny intermittent start up problems. rc

I had a miss fire too. I just put new plugs and wires on mine. Also cleaned the MAF sensor too. I have the battery disconnected now for a little while to reset the computer. I'll update this afternoon and let you know if there is any difference.

Plugs and wires went on without any trouble. And guess what. No more miss fire. I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery and my check engine light hasnt come on yet. The electrods on the plugs I replaced were worn away to nothing almost! I also cleaned the MAF sensor with brake cleaner. purrs like a kitten now... I'm happy......

rjc: the misfire is constant and it is running bad. i must correct the problem tommorow.
curtis: what type of wires and plugs did you use?

I used bosch wires and regular motorcraft plugs. The plugs I took out were motorcraft platnium. I have heard people say explorers cant handle the heat of platnium. the electrode was almost gone on all the plugs I took out.
The bosch plugs, I got at autozone for $29.99.

I have a bad miss fire on mine, I replaced the Plugs, Wires, Fuel Filter, MAS, and it still misses BAD...

You actually should use double platinum plugs as recommended.

Since the original problem of this thread is due to plug wires, check the routing of your wires and see that they are as far as possible from high heat sources (exhaust).
