I am faced with a problem that I hope is something simple that I am overlooking or did not do or even somethin I am not aware of. Ok so here we go this is a 99 sport sohc 6cy when i bought it used I was told that the rear timing chain needed to be replaced and it made this horrible ticking noise reminds me of putting a baseball card in bike spokes and riding. Well I took everthing off the valve covers, water pump, shroud and fan, timing cover and whatever else to get to the middle chain and to see the bottom of the right side chain well when i took timing cover off there was plastic pieces broke off of the chain guides there was atleast 4 pieces chipped up well I took out right side chain and sprocket assembly replaced that and the guides as well as guides for the middle chain put all back together dropped oil pan changed oil filter new radator fluid put all back together well went to start let compression build up started ran for two seconds and shut off so this is where im stuck I have spark and fuel not sure what to do when i try to start it just keeps cranking anything will be helpful thanks

Get all your timeing marks lined up properly before installing the chain?

there are no timing marks when i took off the balancer i didnt move it so it should be just the same as when it was shut off

There are camshaft slots that need to match prior to putting the new chain on, Good luck

yeah he isn't talking about engine timing, but cam timing. the gears for the chain have a certain position relative to one another.

ok so how would i go about making them match up properly if youre looking at the engine it is the front right chain i replaced down two bottom

If you changed the sprocket and chain, the cam position needs to be dead nuts perfect, you need a real service manual to tell you how to do so.
Good luck, keep us posted

any sugestions on a good service manual thanks
