Looks like i may be selling my truck with a 302 i was planning on swapping into my X. So now i'm stuck without a motor for my X again. Now i was thinking bout getting a wee junkyard motor V8 from say, a ranger. I figured it'd be better then having them rebuild the V6 in it. Any options?

rangers never had a v8 in them.....

Fine, either way, i wasn't really planning on spending more then 1k for this engine swap for the v8 and now i need to source either a replacment v6 or a replacment v8. I suppose junkyard is the way to go.

for a 91 Explorer $1K will not cut it to get a V8 in there.
the easiest fit for the V8 is a 96+ 5.0l explorer donor, but you can spend $5K easy putting it in your first gen

For $1K I would stick with a rebuilt OHV 4.0L

How many miles are on your 91? Whats wrong with the engine? Trans in good shape?

1. Alot. 2.Besides the fact that it's a shortblock missing the rest of it's parts? "Pop, BANG, WISSSSSS." 3. Probably not.

ok, well i'm fine with the 4.0 OHV, but i'm pretty sure mines totally dead, i don't even know where the heads are :( . But the old one was totally failing anyway, too many years of abuse. I wouldn't mind changing over to a OHV with a intake and exhaust with a 5spd, but would i be best getting one from the yard?
