Engine Running Rough

Hey Everyone,

I had a question for everyone. My engine is running kind of rough you could say. When the truck idle's it does a lot of vibration and deep noises. It hasn't always done this. I have replaced the plugs and wires and I am about to install new O2 sensors when I get a chance to do it when I get done some of my college work. Do you have any other ideas what could be causing it?

Why are you replacing the O2 sensors?

Did you clean/replaced the IAC? Clean the MAF? Clean the throttle body? Replace the PCV?

Hey Al,

I am replacing the O2 sensors because the check engine light came on and it is the front right that is bad. I have leaned the MAF and other componets that you mentioned. I replaced the PCV about a year ago. Has been running rough since about 90K.

More than likely you do not have a bad O2 sensor. Just because the code say so, the problem(s) is most likely upstream of the O2 sensor.

Have you scanned the O2 sensors for their function?

Intake gaskets.

just so you know, O2 codes are one of the variety that tend to be something "upstream" in the exhaust system, etc. that trip the code, maybe not the sensors themselves...

I second the parts that Al mentioned, I replaced them in mine and things smoothed out. I have yet to do the gaskets, but I know someone that has, and their truck idles and runs much better afterwards. They get very brittle and fail to seal very well...

Intake gaskets.

I 2nd that. A couple winters ago my Explorer would idle REALLY rough upon startup and would actually stall out most of the time. After a couple weeks I took it to a garage, they determined it was the intake gasket, replaced it, haven't had a problem since.

Hey Everyone,

When you say the intake gasket are you referring to the intake manifold gasket or the gasket at the catalytic converters?
