Is the '94 engine a 4.0? I have to ask because, while Explorers only had 4.0's, Rangers had 4 cylinder engines, 3.0 V6 offered, and 4.0 V6's.

The '91 to '94 4.0 V6 used the same block. If you can strip the '94 engine down to the block, all of the accesories and such from your '91 should bolt up. There were some significant differences in engine management and such from a '91 to a '94. If you don't have the '94 computer and wiring harness, I think you'll have to strip it down to the block and get all your '91 stuff onto that block.

yeah its a 4.0

do i need to buy new gaskets and everything to change all this out? please dont think im dumb but i have not messed with cars and trucks much just four wheelers and motorcycles, my dad will help me with the swap but i just wanted to know from you guys what all i will have to d:exporange

You need to put the 91 upper intake on the 94 block and that should be about it, the lower intakes are the same, although you may want to use the 91 coolant temp sensor.

allright guys i hate to keep dragging out this subject but is the air conditioner and alterernator etc. the same i know the electronic computer part may be different but i want to know if i need to keep parts off this other motor

yes you need to basically convert your 94 block to a 91 block using the 91 upepr intake.
the differences between a 91 and a 94 engine are:

91 has a single 02 sensor
91 has a map sensor
they both have EGR

so you should be good to go.
dont throw away the 91 engine until the 94 is in the truck and running
You will keep all the wiring, computer, exhaust, etc with the truck

yeah i have not tore into the engine yet but i have the engine in my shed hopefully i will start on it this week, The man who sold me the explorer told me that the engine threw a rod through the oil pan, i have not had time to investigate this but, he told me the motor has brand new heads that are ford parts so i might see if they are good and i dont know if the rest of the motor ( block and etc. ) are bad

also do you guys know any good free vin decoders for 91 exlorer online

What kind of decoder do you need? I've used the information in Chiltons to get basic VIN information (the free vehicle repair guides at www.autozone.com are an electronic version of Chiltons).
