I was just wondering if I'm swapping a motor from a 1998 explorer into my 1992 will my transmission be compatible with the new motor. My 92 is an auto and the donor engine was a manual. Both motors are 4.0l OHV

Your good to go. Be sure and change the fly wheel.

I would like to buy your 5 speed though. Where are you?

Thanks for the info man. And sorry the tranny isn't there only the motor

I actually dont think it will work, unless you change a few things like, wiring harness transmission. The 1998 is on a OBDII computer and your 1992 is OBDI. I would do a search to make sure, I recently did a motor swap and did a little resarch. Sorry to give you the bad news, but you should do research to make sure for yourself.

The engine is the same. You can even swap in a SOHC and use the same computer. I understand you can even install the top end and cam chains on the OHV block, but I haven't confirmed that.

Actually, if you have the OBDII computer, I would swap that too just because it is slightly better management. But the old computer will work.

I meant that you will have to install the auto flywheel and counter weights on the motor that came from the 5 speed.

thanks a lot for that info that makes me feel a lot better, going to have to go pick up that motor now
