Engine Swap questions...PLEASE HELP!

I am doing an engine swap for a friend on his 02 xlt...we picked up an earlier generation 4.0 sohc (9G 960 AA 4x2 960) and the intakes are completely different...diff harness and diff location of everything! will the parts from the bad engine...intake, ignition , brackets ...all of it swap to the bar heads and block I have??? or do we need to sell this and get a new one? the right one? if it will swap i'll do the work..but I just need to know. PLEASE AND THANKYOU!!!

long block OK

You can use the long block and swap every thing else from the original SOHC V6 to the replacement. What year engine did you purchase? If a 1997 or 1998 you'll have to swap the fuel rails since they were return fuel systems. I think the 2002 has the twist in sensors in the thermostat housing vs the screw in sensors in the older housing which you don't want. There may also be a crankcase breather in the older engine which your 2002 may not have. The harmonic balancer may also be different.

Don't want to be rude, but piggybacking this convo...I have a 01 SportTrac 4.0 V6 and an 02 Explorer V8 4.6, can I swap those out form the ST to the EXLT, or is that not possible? was told the transmission was a no go as far as swapping, but want to make sure. The ST only has 113000 mile and tranny/engine is failing in the explorer xlt.
