engine swappable to my explorer

like the title says, i know mine sig says ford ranger, but I have also a Ford explorer 2003, V6 4.0 SOHC vin K, the engine locked, and overheated, and Its already 150000 miles, I just dont want to open it up and try to fix it as its parts is quite expensive, i just want to know what years and models of ford I could get an engine please thank you in advance!

just want to ask would any year work? coz the local u-pull-it around here is mostly 2001 and below I have seen, is that alright to swap? would having a flex fuel engine which has a Vin K as mine would be ok to swap with a VIN E engine? sorry bout the questions thank you for responding!

I would go newer, you can normally find one out of a mustang at a good price but as long as it is a SOHC it will work. You will need your intake, injectors, accessories and such.

All of the timing chain related improvements were incorporated in the 2002 and later engines.

I would definitely stick with a 4.0 SOHC like you have. Stay away from a V-8 swap. If you want a V8, sell the truck for what you can and buy one. More trouble than it is worth to do the swap.
