Hey guys i have been a long time lurker on here and after lots of searching with no definitive results, I am in need of help. I have a 98 explorer 4.0 SOHC. After wheeling with a buddy of mine the other day I have some sort of tap or rattling sound in the motor/underside of the truck. I noticed the tap after driving over a log and taking a pretty bad hit to the underside coming down off of the log. At first I thought the sound was an exhaust leak because the left cat converter is what was hit under the truck. However, now it appears the sound is coming from the top of the engine in the back on the right side (possibly from under the sohc cover on the top). It is sometimes noticeable on idle and sometimes it isn't but is very apparent as a rattling sound when accelerating in gear. the performance of the truck doesn't seem to be affected, however the noise is very concerning. Any input as to what this noise might be would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for my rambling and thank you all for your help in advance.
