i have a 91 explorer and the guy who had it before me didnt take care of the engine at all....the oil was never changed and the engine and transmission is just complete garbage....i was thinking about getting it repaired until my friend suggested that i just get like a 350 engine and put that in along with the transmission...what do you guys think about this and what engine do you think would be the best to put in the truck?? im not going for any kind of off roading or any thing, most for street use and show use if you wanna put it like that...but i just dont know what kind of engine i should use or where to aquire such an engine.

please help!

Umm... 5.0:D Junk yard or buy a totaled vehicle. Buy the engine, harness, computer, tranny. The 5.0 is sort of easy, cheap and keeps going and going.... Just the way I like them.

do you know of any web sites online where i can find a 5.0 engine at? or if not buy one off line just to give me information on it? and around about how much do you think it would cost to buy the engine and trans and eeryting i would need? i could instal it myself

Check out www.car-part.com you'll be able to find a 5.0 with tranny there. In jersey you should be able to find a decent motor out of a mustang with tranny for less than a grand. There are also some real good scrap yards out in PA. Thier prices are alot less cheaper than the yards in jersey.

Your costs/time may vary but my swap including custom wiring, leather expo seats, autometer gauges, gears, 5.0v8, motor mounts, tranny cooler, 4R70W, trans overhaul, hoses, a/c mods, FMS headers, tranny adapter, etc, etc, etc is around $3500 right now and the project isn't done yet.

I bought a wrecked V8 expo for $2300. That way you can pick out all the parts you need and take your time doing it.

I still have to pay to get a custom exhaust done. At least my transfer case lines up so I don't have to get any driveshaft mods :)

Also, check local junk yards and wrecked auto auctions.

Good luck, I think you will have fun and enjoy the project.

Your best bet would be a junkyard, or check the paper for one that has been wrecked. Go with a 4.0 or a 5.0, if you go with a carb set up you couild put a 302 or 289 cheaper than the fuel injection. Don't mess with a 350, that is a chevy engine and would be a sin to do that to a Ford.

Exactly. If you want a big V8 then why not a 351? Nobody needs a 350, it's overused and not a Ford engine, so why put it in a Ford?
