I have a 2021 Explorer XLT. When using my ac the engine makes a whining sound. It only happens with the ac on. Is this normal or something that should be looked at by the dealer?

Doesn't sound normal to me. I would have it checked. Does it do it all the time when the AC is on?

That's a good thing. It should make it easier for the dealer to fix it.

Interesting. It’s been like this since day one. I have the truck 6 months.
On my ST I don't hear the AC at all. I know it's a different motor but the basics of the AC system should be the same.

So I should bring it in for service. Interesting thing is it only happens when the ac is on. One more question… do you find your transmission is jerky at times and not smooth.

Take it in and hope they find the cause of it. I'm one of the lucky ones (Knock on wood) my transmission shifts great. Nice and smooth under all conditions so far.

Lots of posts on transmission issues here. Here is just one of them. Hard transmission jerks

Sounds like an AC compressor problem.

Even if the ac gets cold?
If its working fine just wait until you bring it in for service and then have them check it out, Of course if it gets worse bring it in right away. Or if it is very loud
