Hello all,
I have a 02 Explorer Sport and for some reason it won't idle. It started just fine all day today then I shut it off to inside for 5 minutes and when I came out and started it it just died. It starts and runs just fine if I have my foot on the gas to keep it around 500-1000rpms but as soon as I take my foot off the pedal it dies. Please help!!! I'm thinking it's a TPS but I'm not to sure. I don't want to spend the money if that ain't it cause I'm strapped for cash as it is.

Thanks guys!!!

Okay so I just went out to the garage and it started right up and idles. what the heck???? Could it still be a TPS??? I've haven't heard of one going bad when it gets hot but then again I'm a jet mechanic not a car mechanic?

Check for a vacuum leak.

Thanks jtsmith!! So far that's worked like a charm... Lets hope it stays that way!!!

That's great!
If cleaning it becomes a nuisance, you might need a replacement--

I had the same problem, it was the TPS sensor. It is a cheap fix.
