European factory headlights question

Darkfox: Do a Google search on "E-code headlights" and you'll find lots of information. Essentially, the reflector design is different than the U.S. (DOT) specification lights. E-code lights have better beam pattern, allowing safer, more efficient use of overwattage bulbs.

For older vehicles with sealed beams, it's easy to convert over to Hella, Marchal or Cibie E-code headlight assemblies which look like ordinary sealed beams. They're not ordinary, though - they use replaceable H4 halogen bulbs. For newer models with "aero" headlights, the swap is considerably more expensive.

What we need is a contact who works for a German auto salvage yard, Ja? :D

JA...

I had no problem converting my Cherokee to e-coded headlights as the Cherokee uses sealed beam.... same on the first generation Explorer in Europe... they incorporated a sealed beam headlight with a fancy frame.... it looks as it was done this way from the beginning.... second generation is OK as well because they started selling them over in Europe around 1995-1996..... in 1998 when Ford moved license plate up into the liftgate they solved problem of European slightly bigger license plates that didn't fiot in the opening on the bumper... we need someone "on the other side".

As I said... I'll be in Germany in August.... will check prices... and should bring a set for my 94 and 98. Thanks,
