ok, i was under the truck today working around and there is some sort of sensor below the battery with 3 lines (vacume lines i suppose) attatched to it. One of the lines is attatched to the bottom side of the throtle body, one line goes toward the rear of the truck and one line (smallest) comes up next to the radiator with a lil cap on it that says something along the lines of Evap canis. service. no more than 1 psi regulated pressure. the other 2 lines have tags on them with part #'s that say this end attatches to 'valve"

well the Y fittings that these lines attatch to on the sensor have become really britle over the years, and finally broke. the truck immeduiately started running like Poo and the "check engine" light came on. I managed to get the line that comes off the throttle body attatched back onto the sensor, but i can't find a Y fitting for the other 2 lines. The truck is running fine now with the one line attatched, but i know i need to get he other 2 lines fixed (dealer parts i suppose)

Now can someone tell me what this sensor actually does. the truck is running fine and i would like to know if i can drive it untill it is fixed (wed at the latest). Sorry for such a long post but i'm trying my best to give you an idea what i'm talking about. THanks in advanced

From the description it sounds like you are referring to the evaporative canister. The reason it started running bad was due to the line going to the throttle body creating a vacuum leak when it failed. It won't hurt anything to drive it until you can get the parts to fix it.

Cool, thank you MRboyle. Your right, as soon as i got the TB line connected back up, the truck ran perfect again. When the dealership opens up tomorrow i will get the fitting for the line that runs to the rear of the truck and hook that up. My CEL is still on, but after i get the new fitting i will reseet the computer and hopefully everything will be fine again. I appreciate your help. Thank you

I forgot to mention that the CEL would stay lit until you were able to fix the problem, but it isn't hurting anything, its just trying to tell you what you already know.
