Hi!

Today my 99' Explorer was very hard to start. Finally it started but there was no idle at all! Quite hard to drive in city traffic without idle speed on the engine. As soon as I lift my foot off the accelerator and engine speed drops to below ~1000 it stops.

What's causing this problem? The car worked fine yesterday. It still runs great on all other engine speeds.
I hope that some of you guys can help me. Off course I am in desperate need of the car right now.... :-(

Best regards

Hi again!

Thanks for the link regarding IAC.
I have cleaned it and checked it according to my Haynes manual.
Everythings seems to be fine but the car is still not working.
It starts up once but dies. Then it is almost impossible to get it to start.
When it finally start there still is no idle at all.

Any more suggestions?

Best regards

You could have blown a vacuum hose off of something. Your IAC might have packed it in too, you can test it to see if it is actually working.

Thanks
I will check all hoses tomorrow. The night is falling here now!
All other suggestions, tips and trix regarding my problem are more than welcome!

Problem solved!

Hi!
Today I took away the IAC-valve again.
I took a pair of pliers and grabbed the rod which connects the "motor" to the valve. It felt a bit stuck but I forced it, with very light force, in both directions a few times. When I took away the pliers I saw that the valve now stayed open. I mounted the IAC and started the engine. It worked just fine. Perfect idle!!!

Thanks a lot for helping me!
