hi all,

have a '03 v8 4x4 with 120k. want to do a cat back and perhaps the entire thing from headers back since there is quite a bit of salt this vehicle has seen. i don't find a borla cat back system, but magnaflow does and someone has said they are on par with borla. true or false, or what's your recommendation?

i'd really like to find a borla kit, since putting it on my '97 sho. it was a beautiful kit, fun installation experience, and i love the sound.

tia,

I don't think that the Magnaflow will be as good as the Borla, but it will still be a dramatic improvement over stock! Depending on the difference in price, I'd say go ahead with the Magnaflow, as long as it's a lot cheaper

pretty much no matter what u end up going with, itll all be relatively the same since u have 8 cylinders... its gunna sound mean as hell and u cant go wrong with anything... i will say borla has a great sound but im sure the magnaflow is much cheaper... go with the cheaper and enjoy the sound and performance

as long as the bends in the pipe are smooth and the equipment is good, an exhaust is an exhaust. when i had my 94 V8 infiniti, i bought a couple magnaflow mufflers, and took them to a muffler shop, and told him to fabricate it from the headers back. it had amazing sound, and there was a very noticeable difference in the seat of your pants at full throttle. that is what i will do with all my cars from now on...

...i'm partial to borla but , an exhaust shop that works on various types of race vehicles can do wonders...:D

...being in st louis there should be a couple...;)

and you know what, not only was my fabricated exhaust good for i believe 12HP at the dyno, it cost me a total of 230-250 bucks, cheaper than any of the cat back systems i had found....

was it mandrel bent (smooth bends) and what material did they use for the pipe? Did you increase your diameter? Just curious what they did that gave you so much power.

material isnt a big deal and the bends arent really a big deal either... just as long as ur muffler is changed then ull get a noticable difference... and diameter may help some, but not a ton

I offer MAC catbacks for most Explorers for average pricing of $249.00 and the piping consists of 3"mandrel bent tubing and 3.5" tip. I also offer JBA, Magnaflow and others.-j
