Muffler's have nothing to do with emissions all they do is quiet down the exhaust. Now whether or not you'll get a noise ordinance ticket or not, depends on the city you live in.

My pipes rotted off after the cats so I just put an 18 inch pipe and a muffler tip angle down. A link to the sound clip is below. Its a little loud around town and not to bad on the highway. I think it sounds best when passing on the freeway. This is only temporary though got to make it legal before inspection in Oct.

I know this is the oppsite of what the main poster was looking for but... I got an 03 4.0 Explorer. I put in a flowmaster 40 series and I hate it! Sounds stock after 2500 rpms. I then put in a K&N cold air intake, thinking it would help. Which it helped performance wise, but you can now hear the intake over the muffler. Does any one know, staying on a budget, what Muffler or what I can use to make my truck sound beastly? I want it to be a head turner. I want people that hear me pass to say what the hell is under that hood! Any one have a nice set up that makes there 4.0 sound like a beast? IMCO extreme series muffler. The sound awesome and since its a single chamber they have some good volume to them. I was inthe same position as you with the flowmaster 40 being to quiet. I got mine at http://hileri.com/?pageid=50844

So its basicaly an expansion chamber add on since it has no internals. That might sound good but if your truck is the family truckster, then I might think twice.

I love it, but if I had a family then there is no way I would have it. Not a good choice for a family vehicle. Single man, now thats another story

So what your saying is rip out my quiet stock sounding 40 series flowmaster and in its place put a Imco Exreme series muffler in its place? Which is going to be much louder and a head turner? Even though its a 4.0? Is it ricy sound or is it beastly sounding? I got a 2003 eddie bauer 4 door what size muffler am I supposed to order? The 2 1/2 or the 2 3/4? Any one of those can be made to fit your application. It all depends on if you want single out or dual out. I wanted single out 2.5" so I am using the 7426.

And your postive its absoutly loud? at least twice as loud as the 40 series flowmaster? becuase the flow master was horrible!

I ordered it.. thanks for the help... I will let you guys know how it sounds when i put it on. As long as its louder than the flowmater 40series ill be happy!

Is the stock pipe size out of the cats 2 1/4? I need a new flange so I can make a new system.

What do you guys think about this one. Granted its on a Cavilier with a V6 but that is one mean sound. The first one is with a resonator and the 2nd with out. I like it! They are spendy though. Around 200 for the resonator and muffler. Muffler is worth more than the car.

i have a flowmaster 40 series its a single in dual out and the sound is great i mean its not too quiet and not too loud. i don't know how loud you must want it. i don't know how to get a sound clip so sorry but i will try to find out how. but i will post pics.

your exhaust is run just like mine, but I got mine out the back, not sides...

Do you have any way of recording sound? (camcorder?) you can bring the audio in that way....

I'd like to hear what it sounds like!
