Yes, you should be able to. Magnaflow even makes a kit to eliminate the 3rd converter and it states that it is compatible with the vehicle emissions system

I cut mine off when I had new exhaust installed, no issues at all:D

Take a before and after soundclip!!! What mufflers?

thats awesome to hear. what mufflers do you have? and i was gonna do flow master 40s. dose any one recommend differently?

yep, ditch the kitty and bring the noise!

How are you guys getting true duals, I was told that it wont work since the gas tank is on the passenger side.

Guys have done it on here...you just have to find a shop that actually wants to make the attempt. Most don't want to go through the hassel of getting the second pipe over the differential...or atleast that's what I heard lol

Getting true duals doesn't mean it has to be on each side of the vehicle, its two seperate pipes. For the Explorers, you'll just run them next to each other and then out the back. It's pretty simple really.

I have the 70 series Flowmaster with 2.5" pipe and love it. Loud enough to hear, but no drone or ever annoying. Ill post a clip when I get home.

Didnnt think about that, you take it back to the other side or just run them paralel all the way to the tips? I want to try some glasspacks or cheery bombs and see how it sounds. Have a 40 series now but want louder!

im not doing true duals im gonna do a single to dual muffler ... maxstealth could u put up a sound clip thanks.

also will my ex pass emissions without the third cat ?

and how much of a difference in loudness is it with and without the cat?

Will do a clip tomorrow, gf has my truck all night. I just have a single exhaust but still sounds bad ass! Sounds really awesome down the highway when you let off the gas and you hear the back fill, sounds like a jet ski at idle as you shut it off.

i have a 40 series in my truck. took a 6 hour trip to southern ohio, got out of my truck when i got there and i could still hear the drone for the next few hours. i hate hate f*&King hate the stupid loud drone.....but it sure does sound awesome outside of the truck, or else i wouldve gotten rid of it

Oh come on steve! Lol! I pulled a trailer down to FL and back and it didn't bother me, you just did not have the music up loud enough. Lmao!

Getting rid of the last cat will make it a tad louder, but the muffler is where it's at. I had a 40 series that was dumped and it was LOUD!!! Ended up doing the 70 series with single 2.5" pipe routed in the stock location and I'm very happy. I haven't been home in a while, but when I do, I'll compare mine to my dad's stock 3rd gen. If you don't want hella loud, a 50 series would be a good choice.

THIS!!!..

Flowmaster is probably in the top 2-3 biggest Marketing Myths in the performance world.

Flowmaster, PROVEN time and time again... will COST power, will NOT add performance, will ALWAYS piss off the neighbors...

I will never understand the sheep/cattle to slaughter mentalty of mod'ing a vehicle...

"well XX is popular, therefore it MUST make HP"...

Oh wait... since I am "just biotching".... Read the stats:

Flkowmaster was low and loud... so if LOUd is important.. go for it...

How does it feel to be a lamb ?

Flowmaster may not be the best muffler out there from a performance point of view, but it sounds damn good and that's why I went with it. I had a full exhaust setup with Flowmaster 40's on my '89 5.0 Mustang and that's what sold me on Flowmasters.

The setup I have right now is without a doubt better than the stock setup and the sound is more than worth it. My goal was to have a Flowmaster tone without pissing off the neighbors(few neighbors actually have commented how nice it sounds:D) and a little more oomph to boot.

If you want a Flowmaster tone and be civilized, get a 70. If you want to raise some eyebrows and turn some heads, get a 50. If you want to piss people off and get the bird, get a 40;)

Edit: The Flowmaster in that article was designed for an SUV application, so I'm sure that hindered performance a teeny weeny bit:D

NO ONE said ANYTHING about performance! Spec when you quote and in the quote does not say anything. I think it is time to change your rag.
