Exhaust sound tips

None of the 40 series mufflers come with a dual inlet, single outlet. Your only option with flowmaster is either the Super 50, or the 70 series. If you want a good sounding muffler for the SOHC, the cherry bomb vortex sounds great.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/IMM-88107/. The muffler is reversible, so the orientation of it doesn't matter. There are a few with this muffler and like I said, it sounds awesome. It seems the number of dual inlet mufflers with a single 2.5" outlet has diminished in the last year or so. Otherwise, cherry bomb also has the elite, but it is much quieter, and longer. Your other option is to get a y-pipe installed so you can use a single inlet/outlet muffler. That way you can use any muffler you want.

Thanks for your advice I will check clips out of the cherry bomb. Yes, I know thats why I was stuck with the 50 series. Does the cherry bomb give a deep sound like the 40 series flowmaster? Because I am not too sure about how the 50 series will sound on a v6 because I have been hearing different things about it but not too positive. I hear that a flowmaster does not sound to well on a v6 it sounds more like a buzzing sound then a deep sound. Before installation I want to be sure that I will like the sound of the muffler of my purchase.

:salute: Lots of advice you are given.
Personally I mounted a Flowmaster Exhaust System - Force II that I associated with KKN High Flow Air Filter, and radical change and the truck much more raucous singing.
voila but this is just my opinion

V8's should have two mufflers and tailpipes. You cannot easily add a tailpipe, but it's very easy to install two mufflers. Do it, the engine needs it.

i have the 50 series i thought it was too quite so i deleted the tail pipe and all my friends love the sound and so do i

Thanks you gave me excellent advice! I originally wanted to purchase a flowmaster 40 series because I loved the sound of it after watching multiple youtube videos. The only problem was apparently they do not make one for my 97 explorer which has 2.25 dual inlets and a 2.25 single outlet. I called flowmaster they said there was nothing in the 40 series to fit my vehicle. If you know of a 40 series that can fit my vehicle PLEASE let me know because I do not really want the 50 series. I just have a malfunction with my exhaust system so I decided to upgrade it.

I find it hard to believe that Flowmaster makes nothing else that fits other than a 50 series, but that might be the case.

If so, if you want a Flowmaster, and the best bang for the buck, you should probably return the muffler you bought, and go with the Flowmaster cat back that has the 50 series muffler included.

An alternative to the dual in-single out muffler is a Y-connector that will let you run a single in-single out 40 series.

Otherwise I'd suggest checking out the Dynomax systems. They are doing a $75 rebate, and the Dynomax flows better than Flowmaster. Check out some YouTube videos of the Super Turbo on Explorers and see if you like the deep sound. These kits get my recommendation over the Flowmaster, both for performance and sound. They sound great with the OHV V6 and are perfect flow-wise. The SOHC might be a different story.

Okay thanks for your advice. I have a v6 SOHC and thanks to this form I have returned the 50 series and purchased a Y connector, a 40 series muffler from flowmaster, and a 2.5" tail pipe from dynomax. So do you mean to tell me the dynomax super turbo muffler, in your opinion gives off a better, more stable and deeper sound then the flow master muffler when being installed on a v6? Also is the super turbo a muffler or and actual kit?
