I would recommend it as a cheaper option, however, you should note that some of the ones on eBay can be iffy. The first one I received did not have straight bars. I was sent a free replacement by the seller though. If I had the cash, I would do the T-Rex billet, which has the polished trim to go on the outside. If your plastic OEM grille has been on for a few years, your truck may have some slight paint wear on the outside.

Are those clear corners? Where did you get those?

yes, those are clear corners. you can get a cheap set of them on ebay if you want. or you can buy the OEM ones that come stock on australian explorers. they dont have a reflector on the side and match perfectly to the stock headlight housing. if youre interested in the OEM ones PM me and i will get you in contact with a guy that has them.

Can anyone recommend a full billet replacement grille?
I did a search here and also checked autoanything.com and all i see is most overlays or the ones where you need t cut out the grille. I have the oxford white 03 with the stock chrome grille on now.

stull, carriage works, t-rex, trenz, and other ebay brands all have full replacements.

sweet, I've heard pretty good things about t-rex and trenz. Any particular brand you like? I kinda like the bars a little fatter than the trenz ones.

they all have their own qualities. i had the trenz on mine, but as you said the bars are too thin. i picked up a stull on ebay for $55 shipped, upper and lower grilles, and its perfect. the only one that i would choose over stull is the t-rex. only because it already has a chrome lip molding. i added that modling to mine for only $12 by going to autozone and getting some chromebrite wheel trim.

I just called the guys at T-rex and think ima go with them. They also mentioned that tey would be able to make one-offs for the fog lights, :) I might look into that also. After i saw the chop that trayson had in another thread I think it would look really nice.

sounds good. t-rex is a good choice. if i were you and you wanted to save yourself about $50-100, id buy the grille from an online site. you can save a crap load by going that route, or even ebay for that matter. the fog light thing might not be a bad idea either.

Hey Smokie

You used this site right? http://store.trexmotorsports.com/grills2.html.. just wanted to make sure so I can go ahead and order the same.. i guess I can all them.. but these are a full replacement grille set right? and not the overlay ones I have heard about..

I had a T-Rex billet grill on my truck and it made an annoying whistle at around 55 to 62 MPH.

BTW.. it was still looking good after 2 MN winters and over 30k

Have any of you experienced “The Whistle” with the Explorer

yes, i experience a whistle on mine. ive had it before i put on my billet though. its coming through the firewall, so im going to fix that soon.
