Anyone know if this will affect UK cars as well as US cars? I would assume we have the same cruise control system?

Thought it was odd that it is just the 1998 cars when its a range of years for all the other models affected. (see the 'Get Summary' link on the nhtsa site).

Don't suppose any of the dealers will know anything about it.

Nothing on the vosa.gov.uk site for a UK recall.

I remember this being discussed somewhere on the net some time ago. OK, from memory ISTR the dodgy component is a pressure switch in the brake line or on the end of the master cylinder. It has/had a 'always on' 12V supply. Aparantly the gubbins inside the switch can corrode or otherwise break down and allow brake fluid to come into contact with the 12V supply and fry. Some Fords have seemingly sufferred spontaneous combustion due to this. Ford changed the cruise control system on Explorers around 1998 which is why later models are not affected. ISTR checking the chassis No. of the '98 I had against a list on a Ford website and my number was nowhere near the 'dodgy' series of numbers.

Cheers
