i have a 1993 explorer and it has 143,000 miles on it. for about three days the oil light kept popping on saying to check the oil.i checked it everytime before i used the car. on one occasion , i had put more oil in the engine until it was full and it was fine but it still said to check the oil.i always put 10w-30.then i was driving up a hill and sat at the light for no more than 30 seconds.the oil light came on and then it shut off completely.all the other lights came on too.i had checked the oil again and it was fine. when i went to start it , it wouldn't start. it cranks but will not start up .it trys to but wont. i changed the igniton control module today and tried again but it still doesnt start.:( ever since i owned this truck(3 years) i have not had to change any parts on it and only do the fluids and brakes.

Sounds like you are in the same boat as me. The first thing I did was to listen for the fuel pump to run. It was running so I put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Fuel pump is only generating 20 psi -- far below the 40 psi it should be generating. So now I just have to figure out why the pressure is low.

Anyway, so my first suggestion is to listen for the fuel pump. If the fuel pump isn't running, then figure out why the pump isn't running. If the pump is running, then put a pressure gauge on it and see if enouhg pressure is being generated.

You might also pull codes from the computer. Some stalls/no starts leave clues in the computer's memory.

who will tow ?the city. Not sure about new jersey, but as long as you move the trucck out of one zone they have to reset threre time clock. You should have seventy two hours, hell, have you and a friend push it, or wipe off any chalk marks.

You might check to see if the camshaft position sensor is turning-
I think it drives the oil pump-the drive gear on it has a pin which can shear,

I seem to remember the same issue a few months ago with another member.

I think the CPS issue was me and it was a PITA to replace but did fix the problem. I just went to autozone and got a new one and the guy told me I could bring it back if that was not it. The fuel pump is a good idea as well. Keep us posted as I have just gone through a lot of this.

i checked the fuel pump and it sounds like the truck is getting gas . ima change the spark plugs just in case to see what happens. i carnked it over and it sounds like its drowning. it also is making a swooshing air sound when i stop running the starter now.its stuck on a cobblestone road on a hill in a storm storm drain.:eek:this will be fun. the spark plugs i had put in were cheap ones so i think it cud be it

okay i pushed the car to a mechanics shop finally and he told me that the fuel pump had went.i was stumped because when i was wrking on it , i heard i charge up.so i guess tht was my main problem.thankx for helpin me out
