I wanted an Explorer for at least two years BEFORE Ford started making them. We were driving Ford Rangers at the time. They are the perfect vehicle for me. Mine is 4WD, four-door, has cargo capacity, has passenger capacity, gets good gas mileage, is comfortable to ride in and easy to drive. I'd put mine up against anything, until you get into sports cars, for handling (at most any speed).
So far, I have only been able to afford two but have loved both of them, especially the 1996 XLT that had 220,000+ miles on it when my husband (he's heard plenty about this) decided it couldn't make a trip to Florida and bought a 2003 Explorer XLT and sold -- SOLD, MIND YOU! -- the 1996 which, in my opinion, was the only vehicle that should be allowed on the roads!
