expo underwater question!!!please help

Not to impede the process of getting your rig home,... But if you were on Private Property, why didn't you go to the owner and let him know you were in the process of getting your truck able to move so you could get it home? If you did not have permission to be on his property then I can understand why he called the cops (sounds like they got kinda drastic though) and might be upset about you being there.

i think the cop with the sniper riffel was excited to actually bust it out.
The private property is about 300 acres of perfect trails and just recently the owner put no trespassing signs up... but did it stop me hell no....the owner does not stay on the property its just land and I have never seen any one out there except for people wheelin--

ive changed my oil then drove home prox. 5 miles.
i'm gonna change the transmission fluid tonight and change the tranny filter
tommarow im gonna change the oil again

but i can not change the front / back diffs or the T case for a couple of days... if I baby it would it be alright to drive??? ---i wont be driving very much and ill be driving it after the tranny fluid is clean.

Goin on provate property, especially with a no tresspassing sign, is what gives all people that 4 wheel bad names. I am not tryin to be a dad or party pooper or anything, just be careful or at least ask before hand.

hey hardazz04, my dad work with someone that bought some land that he only uses for trails and rock climbing. i think he charges people like $15 a vehicle unlimited people. they have big cook outs and everything. if you want i can see if my dad can get the info that way you dont have to worry about someone with a sniper rifle again.:D

this goes for anybody else also. i will try to get my dad to get the info so i can post it. this guy wants people to come out, he just wants you to set up the days you go out. i think he gets the time off from work so he can wheel with everybody.

FIRST OF ALL
this land has been 4 wheel heaven for years and no one stoped it or said anything about it
also I was just trying to go fishing at that pond I wasnt trying to go do damage!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't drive the truck at all until I got ALL of the fluid changed. It is just corroding and rusting everything it is in. Is your Od light blinking? How high does it need to rev before shifting?

Not obeying signs doesn't make you a offroader, it just makes all offroaders look bad. And the guy did try top stop it by putting up the signs. If you tresspass you are likely to get everyone booted from the trails. Had you rolled into the water and gotten hurt it woud have been the land owners ass. Had you asked he may have let you sign a waver.

Thats true!!! Ive never thought of it that way--- what I did was stupid and a leson was learned at that!!!!

but anyways my od light is flashing..why is that? also my od light flashed everyonce and a while before I was submerged..
Im in the process of changing out the tranny fluid and I ran into one problem--how do I drain the fluid from the torque converter??? do I drop the bell housing?? ive already started to unbolt the metal piece that fits over it and its not comming loose.

it revs up to 3 gs and I have to get off the gas to let it change gears---someone told me its because of the water in the transmission is that true?

I would say that you should try changing the fluid and if that doesnt work then your gonna need a rebuild. Mine suffered similar problems after I submerged it. You would have to ease off the throttle to get it to shift out of second into third. It turned out that I needed a transmission rebuild later. Thats not necessarily true, when we drained my trans the shop said there was no water in it and that it looked ok.

Thanks alot -- Hopefully i didnt mess any thing up Ive started to flush my tranny fluid and when I droped my pan the fluid looked like a stawberry milkshake so im possitive

Thanks alot -- Hopefully i didnt mess any thing up Ive started to flush my tranny fluid and when I droped my pan the fluid looked like a stawberry milkshake so im possitive---sorry accidently hit tab and enter--- i got water in my tranny... I only drove home about miles and immediately started to drop the pan--- I have one ? is doing a transmission flush, by removing the transmission cooling lines and placing them into a bucket to drain a quart at a time, safe for my tranny if it has been submerged and the old fluid looked like that?

keep in mind my tranny when all the fluid was released looked rather clean and no rust also my truck has 80,000 mi on it

I am guessing by your symtoms you are due for a rebuild. I am guessing that you no longer have a second gear. You motor is revving up in first so it can shift right into third. This happened to me on my second trans failure.

lol, you shouldnt have rust in the trans fluid, but yeah I'd definately be looking at some estimates for a trans rebuild. If I were you I would get the full overhaul an get a fully reconditioned new one. Those seem the way to go IMO

I'm with Hokie, I'll NEVER rebuild another POS ford auto trans.

ok thanks for the info... What do you suggest in the line of transmissions? performance or basic and what kind of transmission do i have and can I upgrade to a better one with out hassel...
I like the manuel tranny swap idea is it possible???without alot of mods done?

You have a 4r55e there isn't much you can do if you want an auto, except the chevy 700r4. It is a fairly straightforward swap to put a mazda 5 speed in.

so you are saying i can swap my auto tranny out for that mazda 5 speed--are those good tranny's?

The mazda 5 speed isn't the best manual trans out there, but it would probably be 2 or 3 times as reliable as the auto's. They are cheaper and easier to rebuild also. They came in Explorers and Rangers. You should be able to get all the parts off of one truck.

A couple of members have done auto to 5spd swaps and it's not to hard to do but it does cost a few bucks depending on if you buy new or used parts. i beleive if you do a search there is a list of all the parts you need to do it. while you're at it might as loose the electric shif t-case for a manual shift 1354. :)
