I just order a new XLT and need some help with the extended warranty. Does anyone know the pricing of them. My dealer sells the Ford warranty. I know some dealers jack up the price on them I just want to be prepared when we pick up vehicle. Thanks in advance for any replies.

You can get prices instantly from Ford's website. The prices shown are the same retail prices that the dealer should offer you....but there is a pretty good dealer markup on these and you can usually negotiate a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

EDIT: after a 2nd look, the website above is hosted by a specifc Ford dealer and not corporate Ford....but still should give you a good idea of prices. Here is the actual Ford ESP site.

Also there are extended warranties provided by differing vendors. Often markdowns in price reflect selection of a different EW provider.

Mrs Shamaal's caravan EW provider was thrown out of the dealership garage for being an assh*le. You can imagine how much the EW provider was willing to compenstae us for the work performed on the A/C.

Ask specifically who's providing the warranty, just because it's bought at a Ford dealership does not mean it's provided by Ford Corporation or that the dealer will stand behind it in the event of a difference in opinion regarding coverage.

Definitely check out several online resources for the official Ford ESP pricing.

I did that and was able to talk my dealership down from $1600 for 6yrs/75k PremiumCare ($100 deductible) to $1000. Dealer cost on that plan is between $700-800 (I think). I found 3rd party warranties (not Ford) for around $1250 with equal coverage, that was part of my leverage with dealer.

I wish I had this info when I bought mine. One thing I knew is that I wanted to longest and fullest coverage. My 98 XLT cost about 500-700 each time I took it to the dealership. I got 7yr/100K Premium Care (bumper to bumper) for 2100. I tried to get it at 1800 but they balked on my 06 Ltd 4.6 4X4.

When I was at the dealer, the salesman was so aggressive and pushy, I took it up to the fleet manager. He took me into his office and worked out a deal on my SUV and warranty that was around $ 1K. I bought an '06 EB v6 2WD and, currently am experiencing the shifting issue (the gear shifter - P, D, R, etc.) at 6,000 miles that is taking two days to fix.

Maybe different here, but I have never had a salesman ask me about an extended warranty. They always leave that to the financing guy. Even if you are not getting a loan from them you eventually go to him, and he pushes the undercoat, extended warranty and other add ons. That's how they are able to earn commission. They would rather sell you the EW for a huge discount than not at all so work it like you do the car purchase price. I'd refuse it until they got down at least 25%.

ask around before commiting to the dealer..check local union banks most of them offer extended warranties..i know my union bank offers 8yrs or 80k miles (thats 80k miles MORE not until 80k) and its only like 2500 and its bumper to bumper except the regular maintance. an they will also supply me w/ a rental car when i need to drop my truck off at a dealer to get work done

You're correct. It was the finance guy that pitched that but the fleet mgr explained the situation to him.
