Factory Explorer Side Steps (Nerf Bars)

My 1999 Explorer XLT Sport came with color matched side steps (nerf bars) with black step pads that say "Explorer". They are starting to rust around the black step pads. Two questions:

1. Any suggestions for eliminating the rust?

2. Where could I buy exact replacements?

I would suggest first try to get some touch up paint to cover it up or You could try ebay to get replacements.

This is a common problem with the factory nerf bar. I had to primer and repaint mine, but this time I coated it with a rust inhibitor. So far no problems.

Yeah mine are starting to bubble around the pad as well. How hard is to paint around the pad, I don't want to ruin the pad.
