I'm trying to figure out if my truck was supposed to come with a LS rear axle. I thought it was standard in 99 on V8 Limited AWD's. But I recently found out that my truck does not have one, and I think it was supposed to. Does anyone have any information stating whether it should or should not have one? And if not, was it an option? Thanks.

No it shouldn't have. It would only have the factory limited-slip if you got the tow package. The tow package consists of: Wiring Harness, HD Flasher and Limited Slip rear axle.

How would you know if it came with the towing package? It has a hidden hitch, but factory wiring harness.(At least it appears so) Would there be an option code on a sticker somewhere?

Yeah, the rear axle can be either open or limited slip. If you look on the sticker on your driver's side door, under axle, there's a code. if the code contains all numbers, then it's an open axle, ie., 42 = 3.73. If the code contains a letter then a number, then your truck is equipped with a limited slip, ie., D4 = 3.73LSD.

Tow packages don't include any hitches at all until the '02 MY Explorers. The tow package contains what 03ExplorerSPT said.

Cool mine says D4, didn't know that but that's
a good thing..

Thanks

You've just been tricked, Sid. :p

Clue me in Guys !!

D4 = No Limited Slip

Can't a LS also have 3.73 gearing?

Ok. D4 means you hav a limited slip rear end, with 3.73 gears. There is only one other limited slip available for Explorers...The D2, which is 4.10 LS....

That what I thought..

Thanks
