Hi everyone, I am new to the site and have searched the forums but have not seen any one that has installed a factory remote start system in their Explorers (that I can see). I have a few questions. Is there a system that is plug and play? Can you buy the system from Ford and install it yourself? I kinda thought that you could just buy a module and install it with the factory alarm system.

If anyone has any input on this would be appreciated :)

Thanks and great site!

the previous owner of my mountaineer had a remote starter installed that works in conjuction with the factory anti theft system. All i do is hit unlock 3 times on my factory key fob and my mounty fires up.

I'm not sure what the system is as i'd probably have to take off the nice engine cover to look for the box.

I have heard (not reliable) that you can just plug in a module and it comes with key fobs. But having something that works with the factory fobs would be awesome!!!

Aftermarket would probably be cheaper.. no?

The problem I have with a/m remote starts is that there is alot of wiring to be done and if you get some hack to do it (which most shops hire young fresh outta school guys) and they cut into the wiring harness and then you have an electrical nightmare that in my case would void my extended warranty!! :)

I have found one system but I am not 100% sure all that is involved to install..

here is a link to the site where I found this stuff.....

I would not care to much but when winter rolls around and my wife is driving it I want to make sure she can warm it up.

Thanks again!!!

Most decent sized cities'll have shops with guys who know what they're doing.

I'd never let anyone in circuit city or best buy install anything, cause I've seen to many wrong installations or something go awry. But there are 2-3 shops around town that specialize in nothing but customizations and have guys that have been doing this 10-15-20 years, them I'll trust.

Look around, see what's available. For my 1993, I'm looking at getting wireless entry added, but I'd like to also start it up on cold mornings. I'm just weary of one-button remote start, cause something might hit it in your pocket and crank it up.

usually it won't be just one button. I know on mine I have to hit unlock 3 times.

i have a code alarm on my ex...guy who installed it told me that ford uses code alarm as a there auto start systems...i went to the lincoln dealership to get an autostart system for my 07 town car and they told me that they dont have oem auto start systems and that they sub contract them out...so i went to autoalarmpro.com and they actually pre-wire the alarm unit for you and give you step by step instructions to install it into your car...no cutting of wires or anything...you t tap the wires from the unit to the car...i installed a code alarm ca630 (which i prefer) in my town car and it works great...check it out

Excellent, thanks! I just ordered one for my '06 X, I'll let you all know how the installation goes when I get it.

I found out I have the DEI AutoCommand remote Starter.... Now I have to figure out how to up the crank time on the DEI unit by 1 second because sometimes if it's REALLY cold out she won't fire up on the first crank of the morning because the unit doesn't crank long enough... damn me and my V8 :)

I have a dealer installed factory remote starter in my 02 EB.. I have one stock key fob from Ford but I have not been able to get that key fob to start up my X. I have to use the factory remote key fob to start it. Does anybody know where you can buy a new key fob for the factory installed remote starter?

Huh? Let's see if I can translate...
You have a dealer installed starter, and want to use a factory fob to work the dealer starter?

Doesn't work like that click on below links to see if one of those is a replacement for the dealer installed system fob

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Code...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Code-Alarm-...4|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50

Here's what I should have said. I have one key fob (which looks very similar to the ones on eBay) which I use for my remote starter. However, the plastic clip broke which goes on the key ring so I am going to remove the electrical circuit board in my current one and install into a new key fob for factory installed remote installer. Although, I may just have the new keyfob programmed for the remote starter if it's easy.

In regards to the factory key fob it does NOT start up the car like some people have mentioned (pressing unlock 3 times etc.)..

Thanks!

You have a different setup, dealer installed systems are usually Code alarm, it will replace your factory fob, so even tho' you can still use it to unlock, it will not disarm the security system, nor start the car.

The one they mention where they can press lock button on the factory fob to start the car, is an add on, you buy a module that is connected to your car and the input signal comes from the lock wire, thus, pressing lock on a defined secuence will start your car
