Anyone have an idea why I can't get AM stations on my factory stereo? i get great FM reception, and I also have a FM-modulated CD stacker. Any ideas to track down would be greatly appreciated.

I would start by unplugging the CD Changer and plugging the antenna back into the radio and see if your AM reception returns. If it does there might be a problem with the Modulator of your changer. If it is still poor then you have a antenna problem. If you have a multi-meter you can do a quick continuity check to see if the antenna is good.

I have a similar problem with a '98 Mach system, did some antenna testing (its the automatic retractable type), and concluded that the AM radio is either low quality or needs some type of internal adjustment. I live only about 25 miles air distance from NYC and get more static than sound on most stations. In contrast, my '99 Windstar with the standard AM/FM cassette unit and in-the-rear-side-window antenna works fine on AM.
