Fan Blade Problems?

hey guys, just noticed that the fan blade on our 95 looked to be spinning slow....and being the curious little boy that i am (kinda like trying not to push the big red button that says do not push lol) touched the spinning fan blade....and to my suprise my finger was still attached lol. well the fan blade hit my finger a couple times then stopped!!! stood still for a second then slowly picked back up. to confirm this was not operating right i tried it on my 96 but didnt use my finger, used bill of my hat and it deffinately did not stop lol. what would be wrong with the fan blade? im guessing this is waht caused the over heating that blew both head gaskets LOL thanks guys!

that was my first thought, its an easy change isnt it? ill have to get that fixed as soon as i can, thanks minivek
 






If you get the fan clutch wrenches on loan from your local parts store (canadian tire in canada) its a 15 minute job, just make sure your wrenching in the right direction, a little torque and its off. then just take out the four bolts that attach the fan to the clutch, reattach to the new clutch (check to make sure your fan blade assbly isn't cracked). Screw back onto the waterpump shaft and your done, tighten to adequate torque.

Make sure you inspect your actual fan while its out - they are prone to cracking around the fins.
 












Should the fan easily rotate when the vehicle is not on? Is a slow spinng fan the only symptom of the fan clutch slipping/worn?

Yes, the fan will spin fairly easily when the engine is off and cold.

Overheating and slow spinning are the symptoms. Also being able to stop one with your tongue counts... You do the test. :D

If they spin rather easily (as in keep spinning a bit) when you give them a push, they are bad. For the cost, if in doubt... :thumbsup: Much cheaper than replacing the heads. I've had several go bad on me - but I'm typically packing my radiator full of mud on trail runs, which sucks the life out of the entire water pump/fan system.
