Not sure if it's really fiberglass, but hence my question.

I picked up another, erm, change-pod-thing for my 98 Sport.

The dash piece the XM unit is attached to here:

I plan to put two gauges in the bottom area, and flushmount the Roady above it. My issue is that since it's plastic, I'm concerned about adhesion issues (eg: Will the 'glass bond to the plastic).

Is FG the best thing to use here, or is there a better way to go?

on rides they had this fiber and compound mix, that they used for that kind of stuff, it could be sanded cut and painted, i dont know the name but if someone does let me know i want some!

Fiberglass will stick to it fine. I like to rough the plastic up a little bit with 80 grit sandpaper just to make sure the resin has something to bite into.

Thanks man. I'm not looking for anything wildly dramatic, just a tasteful install in place of a trim piece I can do without.

While I'm at it - is there a paint that would dry looking somewhat similar to the stock piece? Somehow I think black Krylon might be a bit on the overly shiny side.

Edit, as I troll your cardomain site, Hartman.

..is absolutely fantastic. That's the look I'm looking for in the piece I'm working with, and now that I see your deck, I really want to try and do that as well.

Since this is about fiberglass can I add in my question - how does fiberglass compare to MDF for strength, if i'd use 1" MDF what would that equal in fiberglass thickness.

Thanks.

The strength of the fiberglass

will be comparable to the strength of the MDF if the fiberglass is one inch thick. For your purposes, the FG will support whatever weight you put on it. It's relatively easy to work with, and dries/hardens wuickly if left in DIRECT sunlight.
