Just bought a parts trucka few weeks ago, was told tranny was shot and engine was fine. This si true, engine runs like a dream, tranny dosent shift. Only other thing i was told was that the tranny fluid runs out as soon as you pour it in, i havent tested this yet but what can i do to find out whats wrong. This truck had a new PA inspection in febuary, and service records upto june, so i believe it was still drivable then. Im thinking that the tranny is mainly ok, just a seal or gasket is shot. How would i go about figuring this out?

could be the front seal.. Thats what was wrong with mine.. But mine would only leak after the tranny built up pressure then pushed it passed the seal..( of course look for all the obvious ones first i.e. tranny pan gasket, hole in pan,the easy visuals.) o yeah what year of ex.

91 with (evil) a4ld. Im planning on pulling the tranny and rebuilding it, but i dont want to have to rebuild what isnt broken or worn.

I'm with Splodo. Are you saying that when you add transmission fluid to the transmission, cold, without the engine operating at all, it runs out??? Or it runs out as soon as you start it up? (the latter is likely a front seal - replacing the seal requires you pull the tranny)

the tranys getting pulled anyways, should be out within 2 weeks, i just need to pull the engine first. Like i said i dont know, all he said is the fluid runs out as soon as you pour it inm so i wouild have to assume that it is when it is sitting still. Car will not run now, taken to much apart.
