2002 Ford Explorer XLS
I just bought a 2002 Explorer XLS and when I was filling it up at a gas station, the nozzle stops every time I press the lever, like when the gas stank is full. at the time it had a quater of a tank of gas so I know that is the issues. It takes me 15 to 20 minutes to fill up the thing. Is it a filler neck problem? Or is it something else?

this is the most common issue hope this helps

When I fill up the tank, gas doesn't spill out everywhere. It acts like the gas tank is full and stops the nozzle from allowing gas in the tank. I heard it was a vacuum pressure issue, that's why I was wondering if it's the filler neck. Has anyone heard of this issue?

That's a great video. There is another way to deal with this. I have experienced this issue on an infrequent basis- exactly as you describe it. There is a little valve/check ball as described in the video. Now, I am not necessarily recommending you do this, but it has worked for me. Straighten out a wire clothes hanger and carefully feed it down the filler neck. Hold onto the hooked end and be careful with the little flap near the top of the filler neck. When you hit the check valve, as described in the above video you will feel resistance. Just wiggle it around and push on it several times to free it up. This avoids jacking up the car and disconnecting the filler. I experience the same issue as you maybe once or twice a year.

I just ran a code scanner and a error code that came up is p0453. Which is the Evap emission system pressure sensor/switch high, is that on top of the gas tank? and if so how can I fix it? And could cause the problem I'm having?

Well, I did this to my sport trac last night, and Ill be damned. Went to get gas this morning and for the first time in a couple years I was able to blast the gas pump wide open and fill the tanks. Thanks for the video.

hmmm... I've had this problem, but I've found that lifting up on the nozzle so that it is pointed ever so slightly more towards the ground inside the filler neck.

watch the video again @1:45, the vent line at the top blow air threw it, if it is not clear it is the charcoal canister
or something in the vent line clogging it
