96' Ford Explorer XLT 4x4
Im stoked the guys at my dealership finally got my pa853 body lift kit on! It looks great. The only two things left are bigger tires and gap guards. My explorer is a 96 Limited 4x4. I tried researching some gap guards but coudlnt find any for the X. Im sure there is some out there thatll work. Any suggestions? Also as for the tires. With JUST the 3 inch body, no torsion twist or anything like that, what size bf all terrains should fit on it. I want the biggest i can get even if i have to do some fender trimming...if somebody could gimme the link to the gap guards that will FOR SURE work i would deeply appreciate it...sorry for all the post asking questions i dont mean to be nagging :) So glad I found this site ::thumbsup:

pictures where are they.

I have a 96 4x4 with 250K miles on it
the truck has a 3" body lift
I have 33x12.50 Dick cepek FCII's on 15x8" rims
I had to trim the fenders a bit up front for turning

I have warrior shackles in the back, not to clear the tires but because the rear leaf springs have sagged and it was sitting with the nose up

I wouldnt buy BFG AT KO's unless I was planning to drive it only in the sand, but most brands of 33x12.50 should fit depending on your wheels

Nobody makes gap guards for your truck, hell nobody really makes a body lift for it. IMO a body lifted explorer doesnt need gap guards, but if you want them they are REALLY simple to make from abs plastic you can buy at your local plastic warehouse (look under vinyl signs in the phone book)

anybody?

according to the add they will work
the only way tehy fit the ranger, Ex and a toyota is if you trim them, so basically you are buying strips of ABS platic you have to cut.

$25 + shipping will buy you alot of ABS plastic

ill probably just forget about the gap guards it looks good anyways...all looks good except it looks like it sits a lil nose up...any ideas? ill have pics up soon...

For the rear you can do an F150 leaf pack / AAL or shackle.

TT the front and run 33's

I personally wouldn't pay $25 plus shipping for the gap guards, you can do that yourself. Some people have used pond liner to make theirs, especially for the front to keep junk out of the engine compartment.

EDIT: Your never done modifying your truck!

MountaineerGreen my 96 4x4 X with only the 3 inch body with 31" BF AT looks like it sits up higher than your mountaineer...doesnt yours have a 4 inch and 32's?

A dealership did this. I could not get 4 wheel parts to do it. Good for you.
