Finally got my '97...here it is, and my plans

As for fuel mileage, I doubt I will get an increase, as I am loving punching the gas just to feel the power and hear the growl of my 4.0.
But, if you drive just as you did before you added the intake and exhaust, you'll get a considerable gain in fuel mileage. ;)

Getting everything worked out on the '97. It's in the shop today, for a miss in the engine and that ever common ticking noise that I suppose all sohc's have had at one time. Hopefully they'll have it done by this evening so I can get some good pics of it with the lift and new tires.

what ever happened with your shackles and hitch? do they hit and do they give you too much lift. im gonna put mine one wither tommorow or wednesday it all depends on the tires. :p

The shackles worked out perfectly. They cleared the hitch by about 1/2 inch or so, and after three days of driving I never felt them hit it once. I was able to get almost a full two inches of lift, and did the tt to lift up the front. It was leaning a little to the drivers side, but the tire guy happened to work on lifted trucks, so he knew how to even everything out. The 31's look great on it...I'll post pics tomorrow when I get it back from the dealer. I had to replace the intake manifold gaskets and the throttle body. Yeah, I shoulda just went and bought a larger throttle body, but I wasn't sure if a bigger one would work with the K&N.

Total for this week:
$1,380 @ dealership.
intake gaskets, intake manifold, throttle body, fuel filter.

Ouch! Man, that does hurt, i'm assuming you got it back today, any pictures yet? When you coming up my way to go wheeling!?

Happy trails!!

I'll have it back this afternoon. Geez!!! I hope they don't find anything else wrong as well. I don't think my checkbook can take anymore!

I'll be back to South Shore on April 26th, so maybe I can run up on the 27th and we can find someplace to wheel.

I could probably do that, just let me know when the time gets closer and i'll round up some friends and maybe can hit some trails!

Happy trails!!

this pic isn't too good...hopefully i'll get some good ones when i go wheeling with jot. but, at least you can see the tires and lift. the piaa 540's will be going onto the safari bar tomorrow afternoon.

another pic....it appears that the rear is sagging, but it's actually not. the tire guy adjusted everything perfectly.

Looks good, it will look even better with lights on the bar. Are you going to do any kind of a locker or something like that?

Happy trails!!

What kind of road noise do you get with the BFGs'? Are they quite or do they make that "truck tire" sound? Also, what are the "extreme headlamps"?

Thanks

Hey weebo, whats the part number on the FIPK you got there? I bought one and they gave me 57-2527 which says is for OHV motors. I thought it woudnt work on my SOHC because there was no hole drilled for the oxygen temp sensor. But now that im reading your thread i see that you had to drill the hole yourself. Did you have to do this with part # 57-2528 as well?

HELP!

Were the transmission filter and gauge fairly easy to install?

:chug:

weebo man I love your truck, I have the exact same one. I have the same paint job, running boards, and rims with the safari bar and 2 KC daylighters on it. only difference is I have no lift and 30's. I want to do a TT and 31's but I want to use a rancho add-a-leaf in the back. I also wanna get some mickey thompson classics in 15x8. Did u just get an alignment after the TT and everything was cool? how was the ride? Thanks man.

Jot:

Yeah, the truck's coming together nicely. I've still got an exhaust leak that causing a ticking noise, but after spending so much at the dealer the other day I'm not overly concerned with it right now.

As far as a locker goes, I'd love to have one. It's in my plans, but probably not til later this summer.

mdriggan:
the bf's are very quiet and ride very smoothly. i think they're quieter than the firestone's that were on it even.

agent_51:
I ordered my fipk from macromotive online. KNfilters.com has several online resellers, and I just saw a new one added that only charges $5 for shipping. Since you've got that fipk then I'd try to make it work. I don't believe any of the fipk come with the hole drilled for the oxygen sensor, so in our case with the sohc we have to drill one.

wally:
The tranny filter is a simple install. Pop the lines off your tranny cooler, figure out which one is the in & which one is the out and then use the new hose and adapters to run it inline. The hardest thing about the gauge is finding someplace to mount it. For now mine is just laying in the glovebox (not mounted.)

birdman:
My '97 had the alignment done at the body shop a couple of weeks ago(I bought it wrecked and had it rebuilt since I knew there were so many things I was going to change). But, I had it checked again after the tt/shackles on Friday when i got the tires installed and the alignment was still perfect. It didn't affect any of the alignment specs.

I'm gonna go get it muddy today...more pics to come.

got some new pics:

two from thursday. I'm not sure why I didn't take any pics after getting it 'accidentally' covered in mud.

so far, so good. the new intake manifold was pricey but made for big improvements.

Looks good man, have you thought about removing the running boards? I'm glad i removed mine, you wouldn't believe the difference it made in clearance, mine were always dragging. Yeah i can't believe you didn't give us any pictures of it muddy, how did it do off road?

Happy trails!!

Ya, i think the X looks sleek w/o the boards
