Finished VB rebuild... Problems... (SOLVED!)

What is the B&M shift +? I know that they make something that varies the vacuum going to the modulator. I once bought it, but never got around to installing it. It is basically a valve with a knob in the passenger compartment that lets you control the vacuum going to the modulator.

Its been quite a few years since I installed it. You install it on two wires on the PCM harness in the engine compartment. This is basically electrical. Its just a wiring harness(2 wires) connected to a small box with a switch(off, firm shift, and very firm). I dont have a clue how it works or what it changes but it works. Afriend of mine gave it to me and highly recommended it.

The style of it is very similar to the vacuum controlled model from the picture. It's actually less than what I had originally paid for mine. I saw another interesting tool one that website, but it didn't give any prices, or technical information. It was a check engine light code resetting tool in the tools section.

I think I picked it up in 2001 and its still going strong. I ordered it form equus for 129+ shipping and it was worth every penny. Now they have them in Walmart for about $80-90 if you have a 96+ vehicle in not they sell the ones for older vehicles.

I have 3 Aerostar vans, 88, 89, and 93. I only use one at a time while I fix the other 2. Right now, I'm using the 89. The other ones don't run at the moment. I have a code reader, but it doesn't have a feature for clearing computer codes. It was a cheap one that I bought from JC Whitney about 10 years ago.

how do you like that BM improver? You said it works, much firmer shifts? What are your shift points like, does it shift at a lower RPM? How about afecting overall life of the tranny, does it extend it at all? IM intrested in getting one and am trying to get some research.

For the most part the shifts are much firmer not sports car firm but you can feel the difference. My Ex shifts almost so that you cant feel the shifts. When you use the BM you can feel the bump during the shift changes. Kinda hard to describe how hard. It doesnt change any shift points. The guy who gave it to me says it increases line pressure which causes the firmer shifts. I've put the BM on at about 60k-70k now at 140k+ and my only problem was the VB so I dont think that its causing any premature wear. Every now and again I do turn it down or off. Right now I have it off so I can gage whats going on w/the tranny since I did the VB rebuild. I hope this answers you questions. Good luck
