I live in Springfeild Missouri, and last night I saw on the local news that Firstone is having a recall on there SUV tires and if you take your explorer to any Sears Tire center, they will install NEW tires. Does anyone know what tires they put on? Is it just a newer series of the same Firestone tire? Are the any qualifications you have to meet? Thanks.

the tires will be replaced with other Firestones. Don't expect to receive anything for a while though, even after issuing a recal it will take months for firestones to stock up enough tires to replace the some 20-40 million tires out there.

Local Article

From the local paper, in Minneapolis...

Sure, that is exactly what I'd want, if I had Firestones, I would want to replace them with Firestones again?! Firestone is going to have to give people a credit towards new tires, no one has confidence in their products anymore, and for good reason, they have killed people! All I know is Firestone will never recover from this one.

We all know that that wouldn't happen. Think of it this way, they would have to come up with a uniform price to credit people, and it wouldn't be nearly enough to buy new BFG's or a "reputable" name tire. Then people would be upset because they had to spend more money on tires. Firestones only obligation is to get a product that does not blow up, and exchange them. Although as for why they would have a reputation to worry about anyways... I didn't know of many people that liked the tires anyways, but FOrd includes em stock so people have to use em.

Here in San Jose, CA, the Firestone/Bridgestone dealers are replacing them with Bridgestone Dueller (Firestone and Brisgestone are owned by the same company). Not sure if it's the H/T or A/T they would replace but you can probably ask for it.

The wait...

My VD tires will be replaced on 8/31. The new ones are almost identical to the Wilderness in style, I don't know it they are HT or AT though. Isn't BF/F'stone assuming a serious liability by having customers wait weeks for a new set? I would prefer to purchase a comparable new set from someone else, and be reimbursed by BF/F'stone. This way the liability goes to the driver and I can get these dangerous tires off my vehicle. There should be an option. Is there?
