I had the oil changed at 5,000 miles. Now it's a bit over 10,000, and I plan on taking it in for another oil change. What other minor things
should I have done to keep it in good shape? Tire rotation? Wiper blades?

A tire change is due unless you plan to put on Winter tires like I do.
I'm sure that the dealer will have the scheduled maintenance items for that service. I usually only change wiper blades when they don't do the job and that isn't very often. Cabin air filter should be changed every 20k miles unless you drive in dusty conditions. The Owner's Guide shows what and when for servicing certain items. Check anti-freeze and windshield wiper fluid.
I'm taking mine in at the end of the month for oil change and tire change. They are also offering a special checkup of more items then I can remember plus a jug of wiper fluid that I can add to the ones I have left over from my Toyota days.

I have a question about this.
The owner's manual indicates;

"Your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM)
system which displays a message in the information display at the proper
oil change service interval; this interval may be up to one year or
10000 miles (16000 kilometers). When ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or
OIL CHANGE REQUIRED appears in the information display, it is time
for an oil change; the oil change must be done within two weeks or
500 miles (800 kilometers) of the ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or OIL
CHANGE REQUIRED message appearing. The Intelligent Oil-Life
Monitor must be reset after each oil change; see the Information
Displays chapter.
If your information display is prematurely reset or becomes inoperative,
you should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5000 miles
(8000 kilometers) from your last oil change. Never exceed one year or
10000 miles (16000 kilometers) between oil change intervals."

We have about 7500 miles on our 2013 Explorer, but have not been prompted for an oil change yet. Should we consider doing one before we're prompted?

Should we consider doing one before we're prompted?

No. Follow the guidelines. Read the thread on UOA. I suggest you switch to a full synthetic. 10K, 1 year, or when the OLM tells you is perfectly acceptable. Anything sooner is a waste of money.

Welcome to the Forum psppsp22.:wavey:
Have you checked your oil life to see what it shows. It calculates the percentage using data it gathers regarding your driving habits so not everyone's is the same. You will find that there are many different opinions on oil changes and there are a few different threads on it as well.
Personally, I change mine every 6 months or 8000 km (5000 mi), whichever comes first and it has always been the time frame in my case. I'm getting the oil changed in about 10 days when I get the Winter tires installed. I have driven about 1200 miles since my last oil change in April and my oil life reading is 52%.
There are definite advantages to synthetic oil but it is also quite a bit more expensive. I have been driving for almost 50 years and many vehicles I had were used ones. I have used regular grade oil and followed regular servicing and never had a problem. Also never saw a need to have an oil analysis done.
