Does anyone have any experience with the Fitch Fuel Catalyst? www.fitchfuelcatalyst.com
I was looking for ways to increase the mileage on my 04 4.6L and came across their website. Apparently, its been approved by the government to decrease emissions and they claim to improve octane, horsepower, torque, and mileage.
It almost sounds like some kind of modern "snake oil."

Peterson's Offroad and 4x4 did a test of it about a year ago. On their Jeep Liberty CRD I think they got atleast 1-2 mpg better. I'll check today, we have that copy at work.

I also have been wondering about it...

As stated by thier website "approved by the EPA"

Reminder:

The EPA has neither the authority nor the charter to "approve" consumer products.

Makes me wonder....

You would think that either UPS or FedEx which spend untold $$ per year on thier fleets would use these devices.

At least at first look this product does not pass the sniff test

From their website:

The Fitch Fuel Catalyst, a permanent fuel treatment device that reformulates fuel, resuscitates partially oxidized fuel, and suppresses growth of bacteria in fuel. This product insures that all fuel delivered to a combustion engine is in its optimal condition allowing an engine to extract the maximum amount of energy with minimal emissions per kg of fuel.

What kind of bacteria can grow in fuel? That sounds like BS to me?

Briwayjones...

Believe it or not bacteria can form in fuel. For instance they have a special bacteria that feeds on crude oil to help with oil spills. Life can exist in the stangest of places

Overall I am having a hard time in believing that this like so many other mileage boosters actually work. i.e. Tornado, Gas Line Magnets etc...

With that said I did find this article posted by a city council in the UK.

I plan on looking into this a bit more. But as of now its not worth $150.00

Since oil is a natural substance I figured there was bacteria that can grow in crude but I figured in fuel there was so many other chemicals and so forth in there that it wouldn't be able to grow?

Plenty of them can.

In the early years of Vietnam, we were having fighter jets fall out of the sky. It was determined that Pseudomonas sp. was growing in the jet fuel and plugging things up. I worked on this in the mid 60's.

Currently, bacteria are used to control wast oil spills and to keep kitchen grease traps clean.

True-
In fact, through bio-engineering, they have developed a bacterium which will consume oil, and it's waste (poo-poo) is Karob, an artificial chocolate.

MMMMMM, Yum!

Bacteria is a significant issue for standby diesel engine power generators. Our (Cummins) customers had to make sure they had quality anti-bacteria agents in the diesel fuel tanks.

So has anybody tried this thing. I did a search and there are a whole bunch of empty ended threads.....

Wow $200.00 range when all is done, for maybe a 2 MPG gain... hmm .. = .. i am not a sucker to buy this item.

Nice looking product though.

I would gladly give double the cost for a 2 MPG net gain.

I shall be testing this unit as soon as one for my truck is available.

True as in the long run it will pay for itself and then continue to pay.

2 MPG = about 0.20-0.30 Cents CDN, so on a 19.5 gallon tank thats about $3.90-$5.85, now if a full tank last you say 2 weeks. Then its about $7.80-$11.70 per month, but of course if a tank last only a week well thats about $15.60-$23.40 per month.

If my calculations are correct thats pretty good and for the first year it will pay for itself as long as your vehicle is up to par all the time, otherwise burning more fuel = more fillups.

It maybe a decent investment, but then again does it really give you 2 MPG in savings and thats why i will wait it out to see.

Once again your calculations are flawed.

To calculate mileage one MUST know the distance traveled and the amount of fuel used.

The greater the distance traveled, the faster the pay off.

Not really, its not flawed as it is based upon gallons in our explorer tanks and price of GAS now. You would need to know your MPG beforehand and after this device is installed. If 2 mpg is what you get in savings, the more the better, but i doubt it will save that much, otherwise you would see every Tom, Dick and Harry buying one.
